Lesson 6: Net Books

Objective: Students will be able to work collaboratively on an essay by using a net book to add and edit each other’s work.

NETS: 1,2,6

Materials:
· Net Book
· Projector
· Explanatory Essay Prompt

Prior Knowledge: Students will have already learned how to edit. They will also have already written explanatory essays.

Procedure:
Day 1- Students will learn how to use the Net Book.
· I will do a demonstration of how to use the Net Book.
· Students will take turns passing the Net Book around to become comfortable using it.
· To transition into tomorrow’s lesson students will each write a word to make sentences.

Day 2-
· Students will be given the explanatory prompt.
· They will look at it for five minutes and jot down any ideas that they have.
· Starting on one side of the room students will write at least one sentence to build an explanatory essay.
· After each student has gone, they will be able to pass the Net Book around to add sentences to make it complete.
· Then I will read what has been written while students look at the board and they will follow along.
· Students will then have to make an editing mark on the essay. They may change words to improve the vocabulary or fix any errors.
(While students are writing on the Net Book, the rest of the class will be reading DEAR books.)

Assessment: The assessment will be informal. I will be walking around while students are writing and editing. If students are not working, I will note that on my checklist.
